Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW)

Diadeis Mission
Diadeis is responsible for the whole of the reprographics and image retouching for all of the multilingual packs of the CPW group for Europe. This work is carried out together with an internal CPW coordination cell based in France.

Initially, Diadeis were responsible for 30% of the overall CPW production but as from 2008, we were chosen to do the repro on the totality of the production.

The project includes the development and integration of a collaborative workflow tool that enables an online follow-up of the production line in real-time. This tool enables everyone involved in the packaging production line - from the brand design agency to the printer – regardless of geographical location, to interact in real-time on the production steps that concern them. This tool, accessed through internet web browsers, allows for the sending and the validation of files, estimates and bills, archiving and real-time follow-up of production. Automatic mail notifications are sent to each person concerned when a step of the production chain is completed or amended.

Process
Initially, Diadeis receives the artwork files delivered by the design agencies from each of CPW’s market countries and ultimately delivers high-definition PDF or ArtPro files to the printers, ready to be printed.

To facilitate a smooth and transparent workflow - Diadeis developed a collaborative tool called PACKFLOW using .net/ASP, tailored specifically to the functional specifications corresponding to the needs of customer. CPW’s marketing departments and agencies in the various representative countries underwent a very quick training period in the use of PACKFLOW and this online hub allows us to answer to all the expectations of CPW in terms of functionalities.

PACKFLOW is used by:

• The design agencies to upload their artwork for production,
• The marketing department of each country in order to launch the production and then to validate the different stages through online PDF checking.
• The internal cell of coordination at CPW to follow the production in terms of quality and respect of the deadlines, but also to receive estimates and quotations as well as allowing easy communication with every involved with the project.
• Diadeis to take delivery of the documents from the agencies, to follow planning, to deliver the repro files for marketing approval and to keep channels of communication open with everyone concerned.
• The printers in order to validate the receipt of the files ready to be printed.

Diadeis also delivers a monthly production analysis to CPW enabling them to follow in a virtual fashion the produced volumes, the turnover carried out and its analytical distribution, the respect of the lead times, etc…

Technology
• Adobe Creative Suite CS3
• Certified GMG Colourproof prints through an EPSON 4880 printer and an ICC profile certification system (specifically FOGRA)
• ArtPro 8.5 rev7 for Repro

Human resources
• One project manager
• One production manager
• One team leader
• One preparatory
• One traffic manager
• One quality controller
• 5 dedicated operators and image retouchers

Volume
Reprographics on 1,000 packs per year.

Main challenge
The main challenge is the reduction in production time in order to accelerate the time-to-market, all the while maintaining a perfect level of quality. It is also a question of facilitating the collaborative workflow tools that make it possible for the various links of the chain to follow the production in real-time and to interact online.

Input
The artwork delivered by the design agencies from each of CPW’s markets.
Output
High-definition PDF or ArtPro files.

Result
The total life cycle of a pack launch, from the initialization by the marketing department until the final print and production, was reduced from 4 to 2 months. This optimization was made possible thanks to the tailor made workflow. Moreover, this tool made it possible for the customer to increase its own productivity, the number of resources dedicated to the follow-up of production having been decreased, while still maintaining a level of optimal quality.
